Bonsai Watering and Drainage
Great drainage is one of the secrets to success when growing bonsai. That's why an open and airy mix that will deliver rich oxygen to the root zone is so critical. All of the mediums we offer are selected with these qualities in mind. That's why plain old dirt or soil will never do for your prized bonsai. Crafting a free draining mix is an art in itself, and we do that every day with our mixes.
We encourage you to experiment with your own too, because there really isn't one right mix. Each plant is unique, each growing environment is different, but one thing that is constant is the need for a great draining mix that will encourage root growth and development. When roots are vibrant and healthy, so too will top growth and general health of the plant will follow suit.
Keeping roots well watered, providing gentle regular feeding, creating an environment that encourages oxygen flow at the root zone and avoiding standing water and sodden mix is what we strive for. That is what will encourage your bonsai to thrive.
