Medium Hydroton

Hydroton is a unique lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) made in Germany. It is ecologically sustainable as it is derived from a plentiful source, clay. The clay is formed into pellets and fired in 1200 degree rotary kilns which causes the clay to expand inside like popcorn which makes it very porous. plants love that porosity to wrap roots around. Advantages of Hydroton include free draining qualities, PH Neutrality, and they can be reused. Hydroton is dust free and inert while promoting good oxygen levels at the root zone. The Hydroton pellets carried by rePotme are quality tested every two months at the University of Hohenheim in Germany. Small Hydroton is also available.
All of our mediums are of the highest quality and come in a variety of textures, sizes, chips, and pieces. Bonsai require free draining water retentive mixes. Sifting various material available here by you to the appropriate size and make-up that is right for your particular application is assumed. Considerations in arriving at the "best" mix for your bonsai should include aeration, drainage, water retention, and proper PH.
Oxygen is critical to root health and the mediums we offer are intended to promote great access to oxygen while also allowing excellent drainage.
