Small Monterey Pine Bark
|
rePotme is pleased to offer Orchiata™ Monterey Pine Bark in both small and medium chips. This extraordinary media from New Zealand is dark and rich and comes from the bark of Pinus Radiata which does not decompose as quickly as fir bark. It retains a hard structure with excellent porosity, has a more stable PH and is an organic renewable resource. Monterey Pine Bark was discussed in the article called Growing the Best Phalaenopsis in the February 2007 edition of plants, the Journal of the America plant Society, as a favorable media for plant cultivation noting its ability to hold moisture and nutrients at a higher PH resulting in better plant growth. Monterey Pine Bark was also recognized in a related article printed in Greenhouse Grower magazine in August 2005. "The imported aged bark obtained from the Monterey pine, grown in New Zealand for lumber, has been used by an increasing number of plant growers in the United States. Our preliminary research found that aged Monterey pine bark holds more moisture and nutrients and maintains a higher pH than fir bark, resulting in better plant growth. In addition, this aged pine bark does not decompose as quickly." Each piece of small Monterey Pine Bark is roughly 1/4 inch. Also available in medium chips.
All of our mediums are of the highest quality and come in a variety of textures, sizes, chips, and pieces. Bonsai require free draining water retentive mixes. Sifting various material available here by you to the appropriate size and make-up that is right for your particular application is assumed. Considerations in arriving at the "best" mix for your bonsai should include aeration, drainage, water retention, and proper PH.
Oxygen is critical to root health and the mediums we offer are intended to promote great access to oxygen while also allowing excellent drainage. Mixing and sifting various mediums to create just the right combination and particle size is part of the fun of experimenting to find the perfect mix. We have assembled an extraordinary menu of choices for you to try here at rePot Bonsai.com, and we encourage you to try any or all of the familiar, unusual and exotic mix components we have assembled for your consideration.
